Thanksgiving is all about traditions. The turkey, the stuffing, the pumpkin pie. Grandma's china dishes and festive decorations. Gathering with friends and family to share a meal and enjoy each other's company. Ahhh!
The traditions you love make Thanksgiving a special time, but there's always room for creating new ones. If you're feeling nostalgic, try watching "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and be thankful you aren't having popcorn and toast for dinner! If you're overflowing with gratitude, create a Thankful Tree by asking your family and friends to write down on pieces of paper what they're thankful for and then hanging all that gratitude on branches arranged in a vase or on a live (pre-Christmas) tree.
If you're feeling especially festive, create an old-fashioned cornucopia to grace your holiday table, using gourds, snacks, treats, candy, or whatever else you'd like. Just don't try to put the turkey in it. If you're feeling photogenic, gather everyone for a holiday snap. Ugly sweaters optional.
If you'd like to remember loved ones on Thanksgiving, create a memory table with pictures or mementos of loved ones who have passed. Light a tea candle or a pillar candle on the table, and this will add a special touch. You can also share stories and memories.
If you're feeling adventurous, try something new and unusual in your regular Thanksgiving menu. Deep-fried Twinkies probably wouldn't be just the thing, but an ethnic dish, an old family favorite, or a Thanksgiving pizza would be a fun and intriguing addition to a festive meal.
No matter what you do, have fun and remember how blessed you are.
